Innovative High-Tech Safety Technologies
Introduced just last year as a completely redesigned vehicle that was named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) ?Top Safety Pick+? *** ? the non-profit vehicle crash testing agency?s highest accolade ? the Mitsubishi Outlander is available with the trifecta of avant-garde safety technologies:

·         Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM)
A radar-based system that in certain circumstances helps determine if a frontal collision is imminent, it warns the driver with audible and visual signals, and automatically applies emergency braking to reduce the severity of the collision.
·         Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
A camera-based system that helps to monitor lane position of the Outlander and warns the driver via visual and audio warnings should they begin to veer into the next lane.
·         Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
A radar-based sensor in the vehicle?s front grille constantly measures distance between the Outlander and the vehicle in front of it, allowing the driver to select three different following distance settings.

Furthermore, every 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with a wide array of comprehensive standard safety features including Hill Start Assist (HSA); Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS); Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control Logic (TCL); anti-lock brakes (ABS) with brake assist and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); a supplemental restraint system (SRS) consisting of seven (7) air bags including driver and passenger side dual-stage air bags, driver?s knee air bag, and curtain airbags for the front and second row seating areas; and a receding brake pedal protection design to help reduce injury to the driver?s lower legs in the event of a high-speed frontal crash.
Additional protection is offered through Mitsubishi Motors? patented Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body/chassis safety cell technology that includes energy absorbing sections beneath the front floor section of the passenger compartment, the engine?s sub-frame and to sections of the body and chassis.

Choice of Versatile 4- and 6-Cylinder Drivetrains
The 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a pair of very capable and fuel-efficient engines: a robust 2.4-liter inline-4 mated to a high-tech continuously-variable transmission (CVT) or a workhorse 3.0-liter V-6 that is paired with a smooth-operating 6-speed automatic transmission.
Featuring Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) variable valve-lift for increased fuel efficiency, reduced exhaust emissions and to maximize power production, the 16-valve 2.4-liter SOHC 4-cylinder engine delivers 166 bhp at 6,000 RPM with 162 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm. The bore and stroke within the all-aluminum engine block measure 3.5 in. (88 mm) and 3.8 in. (97 mm), respectively, with a compression ratio of 10.5:1.
Working in concert with an advanced continuously-variable transmission (CVT), the 4-cylinder engine-equipped Outlander delivers outstanding fuel mileage at an EPA-rated 25 mpg city/31 mpg highway. What?s more, the CVT has been recalibrated for the 2015 model year for a more refined operation as well as improved response.
The exclusive drivetrain providing the motive force for the top-of-the-line 2015 Outlander GT model is the excellent 3.0-liter SOHC V-6 and 6-speed automatic transmission.
This polished V-6 engine provides a full 224 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 215 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,750 rpm. With its high ignitionability iridium spark plugs, reduced friction internal engine components, low viscosity engine oil and 10.5:1 compression ratio, this powerplant provides outstanding power output with excellent fuel efficiency with an EPA-rated fuel economy of 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway.
Other fuel-saving technologies include with either 4- or 6-cylinder-powered Outlander models are a high-efficiency alternator and electric power steering (EPS) that help to reduce parasitic drag on the engine.
Thanks to their low exhaust emissions, all 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander 7-passenger crossover/SUV models (4-or 6-cylinder) are classified as LEV2-ULEV ultra low emission vehicles.

Sure-Footed Super All-Wheel Control
Along with the more powerful V-6 engine, 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander owners benefit from Mitsubishi motors exceptionally capable Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system as part of the Outlander GT?s standard equipment package (the S-AWC system is also available on the mid-grade Outlander SE trim level).
The electronically-controlled Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system features the convenience of push-button activation as well as four distinct driving modes ? the standard ?NORMAL? mode, enhanced traction in slippery conditions with the ?SNOW? setting, maximum traction in ?LOCK? and an ?AWC ECO? mode that maximizes fuel efficiency by operating primarily as a front-wheel drive vehicle that switches in a split-second to all-wheel drive when multiple sensors determine its necessity.
Another benefit of the S-AWC system is its included Brake Control technology. This helps to improve vehicle stability as well as steering response through the use of a yaw control sensor to more precisely control yaw rate by applying brake pressure on the inner wheel for improved vehicle stability and composure.
Rounding out the S-AWC system is the inclusion of an Active Front Differential (AFD) for precision delivery of power routing and control to the front wheels.
The Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system found on the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander is one of the most advance all-wheel drive systems in the industry today.
Suspension/Chassis: Sanguine Ride Assured
Athletic handling, sublime ride quality and a whisper quiet cabin are assured, thanks to the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander?s well-engineered platform.
Mitsubishi Motors? handsome-looking crossover/SUV with seating for seven has an aerodynamically sculpted body that is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but possesses a very low coefficient of drag of only 0.33 ? an extremely low number for a vehicle of its type. What?s more, thanks to the use of high-tensile steel in the Outlander?s body makes for a platform with exemplary structural rigidity as well as a very lightweight structure (a weight reduction of about 220 pounds over the last-generation Outlander model).
The Outlander?s suspension set-up features MacPherson struts up front with optimized shock absorber and spring settings configured within a front suspension subframe that not only reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) from entering the cabin but also provide a smooth and composed ride while soaking up road imperfections to maximum effect.
At the rear of the vehicle is a multi-link rear suspension with finely tuned bushings within its trailing arms that has been optimized to provide a very smooth suspension stroke for improved ride comfort as well as to minimize NVH experienced by the vehicle?s occupants.
*Preliminary estimated fuel economy numbers pending final determination by the EPA.
**Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. Excludes destination/handling, tax, title, license etc. Retailer price, terms and vehicle availability may vary. See your Mitsubishi retailer for details. Destination/handling charges for Mitsubishi Outlander $850; Alaska/Hawaii $975.

2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution production starts this summer

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will be coming to the U.S. for another year. What can we expect to see for the future EVO XI?

The 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will be coming to the U.S. market and production will start in July 2014. That’s what we know for sure about the high-performance model from Mitsubishi. There has been much speculation about the new-generation Lancer EVO XI, but it looks like the EVO X model will continue here in the U.S. for one more year. Beyond that we aren't sure, but it looks like a new future performance model is in the works.

Mitsubishi will confirm that they are still committed to introducing the 2015 model year Lancer Evolution in the U.S.  Production of North American-specification Lancer Evolution models for the 2015 model year will commence in July 2014, with deliveries sometime later this year.

What can we expect in the future? Jim Hall, Trivalle Communications (MMNA's PR agency) says, “As for plans beyond the 2015 model year, MMNA cannot discuss anything regarding the Lancer Evolution model at this time. Our future product plans are of a highly confidential nature.”

Mitsubishi has been very secretive about future plans for the next-gen Lancer Evolution, but sources in Japan have told Motor Trend that Mitsubishi “is well into the development of a next-generation Evolution.” The XI high-performance Evolution will not be getting the same Renault platform that the Lancer will have, but will get its own special architecture. But its going to be different than anything we’ve seen before both in appearance and power and will likely get a new name.

Mitsubishi has made great progress in plug-in hybrid technology, and the new-generation Lancer Evolution will reflect that. But performance fans need not worry, because the power output will increase. The insider told Motor Trend that the performance demands on the new EVO are so great that the Renault platform won’t be able to handle it. It will come with its own specially developed platform to handle the new hybrid performance powertrain.

This technology has developed to the point where Mitsubishi is ready to put it into production with a new performance vehicle. The insider also told MT that it will feature "uncompromised handling with state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid EV technology." It will be highly efficient and will incorporate a smaller engine, smaller electric motors, and lighter, better-performing batteries for the new performance package.

Mitsubishi CEO Osamu Masuko recently said, "The new model will take a completely different direction. What you will see in the near future will be a totally new Evo that employs innovative technology and inspired handling."

We do know for sure that the 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution performance car will be starting production in July and will be in the U.S. in its current form one more year. Stay tuned to Torque News for the latest future Lancer Evolution news.
